Muriel Anderson and Friends perform Nov. 25

Muriel Anderson and Friends will perform at 8 p.m., Friday, Nov. 25, at Memorial Hall, 211 N. Main St., for Charlotte’s Web.

Widely respected as the premier woman fingerstyle guitarist on the scene today, Anderson is a 1989 winner of the National Fingerpicking Guitar Championship. From Japanese koto music and Irish reels to Bach minuets and Roger Miller’s “King of the Road,” Muriel shows a passion for music and a oneness with the instrument.

Her classical training (Chet Atkins, Christopher Parkening) provides the technique which, combined with a gentle sense of humor, has endeared her to audiences worldwide (including the Web since 1994). She is also founder of the Music for Life Alliance, a non-profit organization that works to provide underprivileged children with musical instruments. Joining her for this event will be Nicki Parrott (bass player with Les Paul Trio), and percussionist Cathy Chalmers.

Tickets are $15 in advance, $18 at the door. Tickets are available at Rockford Area Arts Council, 713 E. State St., 963-6765; The Postal Shoppe, Edgebrook Center, 397-7301; and Tin Whistle, N. Main & Auburn, 963-0270; or by mail with check and SASE, 10928 N. Main, Rockton, IL 61072. For Charlotte’s Web information, call 964-2238.
