National Fingerpicking Guitar Champion takes stage at 8 p.m. for CD release concert

National Fingerpicking Guitar Champion Muriel Anderson will perform at 8 p.m., Friday, Nov. 24, at Mendelssohn Performing Arts Center, 415 N. Church St.

Anderson has honed her guitarist skills and expanded her talents as a composer, songwriter and vocalist. Her music spans the globe in styles. Charlotte’s Web is happy to welcome her back.

Widely respected as one of the premier guitarists on the scene today, she is the first woman to have won the National Fingerpicking Guitar Championship and is host of the renowned Muriel Anderson’s All Star Guitar Nights.

Muriel fell in love with the guitar at an early age and learned every style available to her, culminating in classical guitar study at DePaul University. She has been composing since age 6, writing music for guitar and strings, including songs and solo compositions as well as works for chorus and orchestra. Her unique approach to the instrument virtually transforms the guitar into a lyrical choir, then a marching band, then a Japanese koto, then a bluegrass band. She amazes audiences with her technique and endears them with her sense of humor. Her facility across the genres of folk, classical, jazz, bluegrass and international music is revered by guitarists worldwide. Muriel is the founder of the Music for Life Alliance charity.

“Acoustic guitarist Muriel Anderson… has justifiably gained a reputation as one of the world’s best, and most versatile, guitar instrumentalists.”—Chicago Tribune

This concert will be a special CD release concert. Muriel is presenting her newest CD, Harp Guitar Christmas, perfect for holiday giving. The Harp Guitar Christmas includes a Christmas tree ornament tucked in the liner notes of each CD. This CD features favorite classic Christmas carols and hymns, played on solo harp guitar and classical guitar. Also joining Muriel at this concert will be Jim Kanas, described as one of the most highly regarded guitarists and diverse musicians in the Midwest.
