Musical evening at Mendelssohn, Kuma’s

Mendelssohn Performing Arts Center (MPAC) and Kuma’s Asian Bistro will offer northern Illinois residents an exciting evening of fun classical music and fine Asian fusion cuisine Friday, Oct. 13. The two organizations have joined together to offer concert-goers:

A special prix fixe pre-concert dinner at Kuma’s;

A recital by the internationally renowned Ahn Trio at Court Street United Methodist Church; and

A post-concert “Meet-the-Artists” reception at Kuma’s.

The Ahn Trio—a piano trio of sisters originally from South Korea—is critically praised for their fresh take on classical music. They are often credited with making classical music “fun” and for introducing the genre to the “MTV Generation.”

“We are very excited to bring the Ahn sisters and their modern, fresh program to Rockford,” said Mendelssohn Executive Director Bridget Fraser. “I’m confident that attendees will find the entire experience to be a world-class evening of exceptional dining and music.”

The partnership between Mendelssohn and Kuma’s came from a mutual desire to nurture and grow the number of people who enjoy fine food and music, said Fred Sabet, who co-owns Kuma’s Asian Bistro with his wife, Kuma Kim. “Both Kuma and I are music lovers, and we were very excited to be able to help bring the Ahn sisters to Rockford. Plus, the cultural link between the Ahn sisters and my wife made it a natural fit.” (The Ahn sisters and Kim are all originally from Korea.)

“Partnerships are important for Rockford-area businesses and cultural organizations to succeed and to draw in people from the surrounding region,” said Kim Wheeler, executive director of the River District Association. “This partnership will do just that.”
