Must-see Web sites:,

Out of the millions of sports-related Web sites, I’ve recently come across a couple worth sharing with local readers.

The first is based right here in river city. is a relatively new Web site. It is run and maintained by Karl Bufalo, a local angler and computer entrepreneur. The site is dedicated to local fishing and outdoors. There are links to many of the local waterways where anglers can find the latest information about what fish are biting, and about what bait or lures to use.

Visitors to the Web site can also link to the Illinois Department of Natural Resources and purchase their 2006 fishing license online. There are two other cool features on the site. The first lets people submit photos and/or stories about their catch. The second allows guests to buy and sell fishing gear, including everything from rods and reels all the way up to bass boats.

The site is worth checking out, whether before your next trip to find out where the action is, or afterward to show everyone the big one that didn’t get away.

The second site I recommend is It is billed as the “Official site of Danica Patrick.” It has the best combination of sound and graphics I’ve ever seen on any Web site. It also contains some nice photos of Danica in her driving suit, and some other casual shots. There are only two negatives I could find. Currently, not all of the information has been loaded onto the site. Several of the links, when clicked on, simply state, “This section will be out of the pits soon.” The other drawback is, if you don’t have a high-speed connection, it takes forever to download. I first tried the site using a standard dial-up connection, and it wasn’t anything comparable to what I discovered when I tried again with the broadband connection. I’m sure, due to the complexity of the graphics and sounds it requires, the speed of broadband is needed for optimal viewing. If they do get all of the information loaded onto this site, it definitely will be worth adding to any race fan’s “favorites” list.

If you’ve come across a cool or unique sports-related Web site you’d like to share, send me the link or information to my e-mail address shown at the end of this column. If it’s really all you say it is, maybe we’ll share it with everyone in a future column.
