Mystery author at Writers’ Guild event

Mystery writer Jennie Spallone will be the speaker at the Rockford Writers’ Guild monthly meeting at 1 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 21, at Barnes and Noble Booksellers, 6685 E. State St.

Spallone, an experienced feature writer for Consumers Digest, the Chicago Tribune and Chicago Sun-Times, won third place for mystery fiction at the Public Safety Writers Association Conference in Las Vegas, Nev., for Deadly Choices (Treble Heart Books). The novel features a female paramedic, Beth Reilly, in action in West Chicago.

Spallone is a member of Sisters in Crime and Mystery Writers of America.

The meeting is free and open to the public. The Guild meets every third Sunday (except July and August) to hear published authors and talk shop.
