Second Annual NASCAR Foundation Blood and Marrow Drive at Rockford Speedway
The Rockford Speedway will host the 2nd Annual NASCAR Foundation Blood and Marrow Drive in partnership with the Rock River Valley Blood Center on Saturday, Aug. 18 from 1 p.m.-6 p.m.
The NASCAR Foundation Blood and Marrow Drive seeks to provide unique experiences at many different tracks that bring out the goodwill and community pride in all race fans. In addition to giving blood, fans are also encouraged to join the National Marrow Donor Program Registry of volunteer marrow donors. Those interested may also join the Illinois Secretary of State Organ/Tissue Donor Program.
NASCAR fans are invited to partake in this great event and will have a chance to win Chad Knaus and Jimmie Johnson signed memorabilia. Knaus, the crew chief of the Lowes Monte Carlo, is a Rockford native, his dad John is a seven-time track champion at Rockford Speedway while Jimmie Johnson was crowned the 2006 NASCAR Nextel Cup Champion. Drives like these are special to the duo as their boss Rick Hendrick began the Hendrick Marrow program after being diagnosed with leukemia in 1996.
In honor of the many acts of kindness displayed by the donors every year, the tracks work very hard to make the drive a memorable experience. All donors will receive a free ticket to the speedway for that night, accompanying spouse and children will receive discounted admission. Donors will also receive free tickets to the Historic Auto Attraction Museum.
The event will feature a corn boil, supervised kids playground (while you donate), pit tours, ride-a-longs and Entertainment by Bare Bones (2 p.m.-5 p.m.). The first 100 donors will receive a special edition Laps for Life T-shirt. Dont forgetall you have to do is roll up your sleeves to help save a life!
To make an appointment to donate, call 815-965-8751 or toll-free at 877-RRVBC-99.
