New American Theater announces its 6th Annual New Voices In The Heartland New Play Festival, to be held Friday, Aug. 16 through Sunday, Aug. 18 at New American Theater, 118 N. Main St., Rockford. New Voices In The Heartland New Play Festival is a presentation of staged readings of original, previously unproduced plays. Playwrights will be in attendance and given the opportunity to work closely with area actors and directors. This cultural collaboration introduces five original new plays with unique ideas to area audiences. The selected plays have been chosen out of approximately 100 submissions.

Performances are scheduled as follows: Friday, Aug. 16 – 8 p.m., Musically Inclined by Peter Shelburne; Saturday, Aug. 17 – 2 p.m., Painting By Numbers by Adrian Royce; 7:30 p.m., The Perfect Man by Martin Blinder; Sunday, Aug. 18 – 2 p.m., The Bridge Party by David O’Sullivan; 7:30 p.m., Lenya Rides Again by Barry Dantzscher.

Come experience a weekend of exciting interactive theater on NAT’s SecondStage. Post-show discussions with the playwrights themselves, the cast and director will follow each presentation.

This festival of new play readings is sponsored in part by the Frances Smith Shafer Brown Memorial Fund, Phyllis Mott and by grants from the Illinois Arts Council and the Rockford Area Arts Council in cooperation with the city of Rockford.

Single ticket prices are: individual play readings, $5 each; individual tickets for Saturday and Sunday dinners, $10 each.
