National Gathering of Renewable Energy experts and advocates in Reno

The American Solar Energy Society (ASES) announces the dates for SOLAR 2002, the National Solar Energy Conference. This year the nations largest gathering of sustainable energy professionals will be held in Reno, Nevada, from June 15-20, 2002. The conference will highlight the importance of domestic sustainable energy technology to the nations security, economy and environment.
Marion Barritt, chair of the conference, noted, Domestic renewable energy resources are particularly important in light of todays concerns about terrorism, conflicts in the Middle East and global warming. SOLAR 2002 will be an opportunity to show the nation that alternatives to foreign petroleum exist and the importance of sustainable domestic energy resources like solar, wind, geothermal, biomass and hydrogen to a healthy and secure future for our children.
Conference participants will include architects, builders, research scientists, academics, entrepreneurs, government leaders, students and investors. The five-day conference will feature leading experts in the field as well as a large number of local, state and national political leaders including: U.S. Senator Harry Reid; Nevada Governor Kenny Guinn; Nevada Lt. Governor Lorraine T. Hunt; Nevada Assemblywoman Sheila Leslie. Retired U.S. Senator Richard Bryan will be present to honor Nevada Senator Randolph Townsend for his efforts to establish the Nations leading Renewable Energy Portfolio Standard (RPS): 15 percent renewable energy by 2013. This RPS commits Nevada to become the countrys leader in adding renewable energy technologies to its energy mix in the future.
