National magazine to feature Tinker Swiss Cottage
Last week, photographers with the national publication Old House Interiors paid a visit to Rockford. They spent the day at Tinker Swiss Cottage Museum shooting pictures for a feature article which will appear sometime in 2003. Old House Interiors publishes six issues each year devoted to period-inspired home design. The magazine showcases homes built before 1950 and offers practical information on appropriate interior decoration. Pictures taken by the photographer Frank Schmidt and arranged by Esther Schmidt captured much of the 1865 Swiss Cottage, including not only the mural-filled kitchen and dining room but the spectacular two-story library as well. The magazine deemed the Cottage delightful and unique.
Tinker Swiss Cottage was the home of Rockford Mayor Robert Hall Tinker. He built his eclectic Swiss-style home after a tour of Europe in the 1860s. The Cottage is open to the public for tours Tuesday through Sunday at 1, 2 and 3 p.m.
