Native Plant Sale
The Wildflower Preservation and Propagation Committee (WPPC) of the McHenry County Defenders announces their Annual Native Plant Sale! This years sale will be held at 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 5th at the McHenry County College Cafeteria. McHenry County College is located at 8900 Route 14, between Crystal Lake and Woodstock.
All the plants available at this sale are plants native to the area that have been propagated from seed, as opposed to dug from the wild. Prairie plants, wetland plants and woodland plants will be included in the sale.
Lists of available plants will be distributed at the door. Due to the popularity of this sale, lines often form as early as noon. No plants will be sold before 1 p.m.
The Wildflower Preservation and Propagation Committee of the McHenry County Defenders provides education and advocacy to promote the use of native plants, wildflowers and natural landscaping. Emphasis is placed on saving rare, endangered, and threatened species in McHenry County. The committee members have expertise in the care, placement and growth of native species. The native plant sale funds seminars, grants to schools and educational materials.
