NAT’s Variety Hour takes stage June 24-25

Two years ago, the local media community embraced New American Theater (NAT) in their darkest hour and created the Variety Hour show fund-raiser. The hilarious antics of Rockford’s television, radio and newspaper personalities have become the stuff of legend since those performances.

The management of NAT was asked by many in the media if a second Variety Hour would ever be in the works. So, due to the amount of sheer fun and interest in the idea, it is happening again.

If you were there in 2004, you may remember the first-ever media symphonic band, the President’s appearance on Coffee Talk, and a news brief done in briefs! This year, you don’t want to miss a firsthand account of the Siegfried & Roy attack, CSI Rock Vegas, highlights from Rockford’s first-ever Celebrity Poker Showdown and the truth behind the claim that “What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas.”

At 8 p.m., Saturday, June 24, and 2 p.m., Sunday, June 25, your Rockford news anchors, disc jockeys, meteorologists, reporters and sportscasters will be stepping outside their comfort zones, showing you a glimpse of their inner comedian as they sing, impersonate, dance and act in this Las Vegas-style revue.

Personalities include Scott Leber and Steve Stadelman from WTVO-TV 17; Alan Jones from FOX-TV 39; Laura Gibbs and Mark Henderson from WIFR-TV 23; Eric Sorenson from WREX-TV 13; Steve & Dee Dee from The Eagle 96.7 FM; and Steve Shannon from WZOK 97.5 FM.

Variety Hour is coordinated and scripted by NAT Artistic Director Tony Vezner, Brian Nordstrom and Charles Matlock of Yknot Productions, with production and stage management by Jessica Ann Schultz.

Tickets, $20, are available at the NAT Box Office, 118 N. Main St., or 964-6282.
