Six weeks ago, the restaurants began offering a transfat-free cooking oil that meets high standards for taste, while providing a healthier alternative to traditional oils. The pictured Engine Co. BeefaRoo is at 6116 N. 2nd. St. in Loves Park.’);

After extensive research and taste-testing, BeefaRoo is proud to be frying in a “trans fat-free oil” at all restaurant locations.

“BeefaRoo’s goal is to be on the cutting edge of technology and dietary standards. We are pleased to offer a transfat-free cooking oil that meets our high standards for taste, while providing a superior product that would be a healthier alternative to traditional oils,” said BeefaRoo Vice President Melissa Seeling. “In fact, we began using the new trans fat-free oil almost six weeks ago. We continue to be pleased with the product, offering the great-tasting foods that our customers have come to expect.”

Using a more healthy frying oil is just one more step in BeefaRoo’s efforts to:

1. Provide BeefaRoo customers with the healthiest and safest food products available.

2. Voluntarily meet the changing Dietary Guidelines recommended by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

Trans fats are created by the addition of hydrogen to vegetable oil, in an industrial process called partial hydrogenation. The changes in the molecular configuration and properties of vegetable oil that has been hydrogenated are what make this fat more dangerous for all consumers. Denmark has imposed a ban on oils and fats that contain more than 2 percent trans fat. Canada is moving toward a similar ban. In January 2005, the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the U.S. Department of Human Services (HHS) issued a recommendation to “keep trans fatty acid consumption as low as possible and consume less than 300/mg. per day of cholesterol.”

BeefaRoo is the first restaurant group in the Rockford area making such a monumental, health-changing step. It is a company commitment to offer foods that support a healthy and active lifestyle. In addition to using a trans fat-free oil, BeefaRoo continues to expand its menu of healthy options.
