Naturally Rockford: Pirates Over 40 to hold benefit for 3-year-old

“Pirates Over 40”—a Jimmy Buffet tribute band—will perform at a fund-raising concert at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, June 18, at the American Legion Hall, 221 W. Main St., Rockton, IL. This will be a benefit for 3-year-old Shelby Martin, who was born with a life-threatening disease called biliary atresia. Her only chance for living a long, normal life is a liver transplant.

A local fund-raising organization has been established through Children’s Organ Transplant Association (COTA) to raise funds to cover medical expenses. At this point, “COTA for Shelby M” has raised more than $45,000 toward their $100,000 goal.

So, it’s the Pirates to the rescue! Gather the women and children. These are FUN Pirates. “Pirates Over 40” promises to provide an escape from the land-locked Midwest to swaying palm trees, the radiant sun, and the sound of lumbering waves against the sandy beaches.

Admission is $10. For more information, call Andy Gannon at WIFR-TV, at 987-5330 between 8:30 a.m. and noon.
