Playground made possible by combination of donation and grant
The Rockford Park District Board of Commissioners approved a resolution Tuesday, June 26, directing staff to pursue an Open Space Land and Development (OSLAD) grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) in combination with a 14-acre parcel of land donation from First Rockford Group and William Charles Company.
If the grant is awarded, the land acquisition and development costs of this park, named at the donors request as Puri-Howard Park, will not cost local taxpayers any money and will eventually serve 446 new homes in the Linden Pointe subdivision.
The primary park amenities would include a playground, shelter, walking paths, a softball field and a soccer field, along with natural areas and a detention pond.
The grant application deadline was July 1, and grant award announcements will take place in January 2008. If the grant is not awarded, the entire project will be reconsidered.
