New store opens downtown

A local Rockford woman has plunged into a new career venture and is opening a store in downtown Rockford.

Cyndi Furney opens “Eclectic” Wednesday, Aug. 31. The store will sell new and slightly used unique gift items and collectibles, many of which are one-of-a-kind.

Cyndi Furney and her husband Vern have recently purchased the building at 308 E. State St. in an effort to build retail and residential space to help create an urban revival in the downtown area. The building is also long-time home to Schleicher Printing, which will remain in the rear of the building, and Eclectic will occupy the front portion of the building.

Furney has had a long-time dream of opening her own store where she could utilize her creative flair by offering unique and mostly one-of-a-kind gifts and collectibles. Now she is able to make her dream come true. The store will be open Wednesdays through Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and also evenings during downtown events such as On the Waterfront.
