Local Indy Racing League favorite and former Roscoe resident Danica Patrick will be at Homestead-Miami Speedway in Homestead, Fla., Saturday, March 24, to start her 2007 racing season. Patrick will be driving for her new team, Andretti-Green Racing, in the Homestead-Miami 300.

After being named the 2005 IRL Rookie of the Year, Patrick had a disappointing sophomore season. She was able to manage only two top-five finishes. She was under constant media scrutiny and pressure by having to continually answer questions regarding her performances and when she would finally get her first victory in the series. She was plagued by what she felt was a lack of horsepower. Therefore, the victory never materialized, and near the end of the 2006 season, Patrick announced she would be leaving Rahal-Letterman Racing.

During that time, the rumors began to fly. The media and fans began to speculate she might make the move to NASCAR. That didn’t happen. Instead, she signed with the Andretti-Green team to drive the Motorola-Argent Mortgage black No. 7 Honda for the 2007 season.

I’m sure some of the same questions will continue to haunt Patrick this season. However, with the new team and a fresh start, maybe it won’t be long until the question will switch from “When?” to “Tell us how it feels to finally get that monkey off your back and be here in victory lane?”
