SwedishAmerican Health System has unveiled a new area on its award-winning web site, www.swedishamerican.org, which provides in-depth information about the organization’s rich and colorful heritage.

Of special interest to local history enthusiasts, the new area reveals how SwedishAmerican was founded by Rockford’s Swedish community in response to a great need for healthcare services, and how the health system has grown and evolved over the years. Information is organized into six different sections, each corresponding to a different era in SwedishAmerican history.

Within each section, visitors can switch back and forth between a photo viewer that showcases visual images from each era and a window displaying events from an informational timeline. In addition, visitors have the ability to view all-time or era-specific listings of SwedishAmerican board chairmen, as well as biographies and photos of the administrators who have served the health system over the years.

Also included is a special section about the Lake-Peterson Home. Currently the health system’s corporate headquarters, this stately 129-year-old Gothic landmark is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is the former residence of Rockford manufacturing magnate P.A. Peterson, one of SwedishAmerican’s early board presidents.

SwedishAmerican Health System’s online history is released as the City of Rockford celebrates its 150th birthday and the arrival of the area’s first Swedish immigrants.
