The cars and stars of NASCAR will be in our back yard Saturday and Sunday, July 14-15, when they come to the Chicagoland Speedway. The Busch series will run the USG Durock 300 Saturday and the Nextel Cup series will run the USG Sheetrock 400 Sunday.
The track is just outside Joliet, less than 90 minutes from Rockford. This is the best opportunity for NASCAR fans from this area to see their favorites up close and personal. The mile-and-a-half oval track was completed in 2000. It has seating for 75,000 fans.
Last year, Casey Mears won the Busch race, and Jeff Gordon won the Nextel Cup race. This year, Jamie McMurray will be looking to make it two in a row following his photo finish victory last Saturday night, July 7, at the Pepsi 400 in Daytona. He finished .005 seconds ahead of Kyle Busch. The margin of victory was the second-closest since NASCAR started using computer-recorded scoring. The closest race ever came in 2003 at Darlington when Ricky Craven edged Kurt Bush by .002 seconds.
I have four tickets available for both of this weekends races. Because of family obligations, I will be unable to use them. They are great seats in section 123, row 1. I would like to sell them to someone from this area. If you or someone you know would like them, please contact me at (815) 222-4510.
