NIU hosts Great Lakes lecture Jan. 17

DEKALB, Ill.—The NIU Lifelong Learning Institute (NIU LLI) is sponsoring a special concert and lecture, “The Great Lakes and Our Inland Seas,” from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2006, at the Holmes Student Center Sky Room, 16th floor. This event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served at 4 p.m.

Join the NIU LLI as Tom and Chris Kastle sing and share stories about the history, traditions, cultural diversity, and beauty of life on the Great Lakes. Listen as they trace the lives of the Great Lake boats, from early schooners to today’s megaton freighters. Tom and Chris Kastle will introduce the people and environment of one of America’s greatest natural resources.

“The Great Lakes and Our Inland Seas” also kicks off the first session of a four-week study group about the Great Lakes for the NIU LLI Winter 2006 session. The NIU LLI is open to anyone who is retired or 55 years of age or older who never wants to stop learning. It sponsors events for all ages such as “The Great Lakes and Our Inland Seas” and fun excursions outside of DeKalb. Also sponsored by the NIU LLI are study groups only offered to its members. These interactive sessions are taught by NIU LLI members, and are a great way to learn without experiencing the stress of exams, grades, or papers.
