The Heart Walk is a fun 1- or 2-mile walk featuring entertainment, health fair activities and more. The Heart Walk helps raise money for research, public and professional education, and community programs that help fight heart disease and stroke.

The chairman for the 2006 Northern Illinois Heart Walk is David Schertz, administrator/CEO of OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center. As chairman, Schertz is working with the AHA staff to help manage the activities of the Heart Walk, and supervise the Heart Walk volunteer committees.

“The Heart Walk offers a great opportunity to get some exercise, while fighting heart disease and stroke,” said Schertz. “I am honored to chair such an important community event. It’s sure to be a great day.”

Since 1924 the AHA has helped protect people of all ages and ethnicities from the ravages of heart disease and stroke. These diseases, the nation’s No. 1 and No. 3 killers, and other cardiovascular diseases, claim nearly 1 million American lives a year. The AHA invested more than $439 million in fiscal year 2003-04 for research, professional and public education, and advocacy.
