Terminated Rock Valley College (RVC) President Roland Chip Chapdelaine has accepted the position of president of Cuyahoga Community Colleges Eastern Campus in Cleveland, Ohio, The Rock River Times learned July 13. Chapdelaine is scheduled to begin the position July 29.
The Cleveland Plain Dealer reported July 16 about Chapdelaines unanimous termination from RVC in January, and issues spotlighted by The Rock River Times during last years series of articles on the college.
The board fired Chapdelaine after five consecutive and unprecedented years of deficit spending that totaled $7.3 million; downgrade of the colleges recognition status by the colleges governing agency, the Illinois Community College Board; no confidence votes by all three employee groups that totaled 204-28; legal costs that climbed each year during Chapdelaines tenure from about $48,000 in 1998 to about $460,000 in 2003; alleged illegal use of taxpayer funds for two political contributions, which were reimbursed; double charges for airline expenses for his recruitment to RVC; and at least $9.6 million in construction cost overruns.
