Olson could land radio job

Kevin Olson of Machesney Park says he could be working for Indianapolis Motor Speedway radio network on Indy Racing League events before this season is over.

He could be onair by the Texas race June 12. Olson, multi-time USAC and Badger midget champ known for his zaniness, was in Indianapolis last week for interviews, including a sit-down with Tony George, whom he knows personally. George is president of IMS and IRL, and he contacted Olson about the possible job.

Also, Olson said he could run as many as 14 midget races this season. FATTFRO Motorsports of Marengo retained Olson to coach sprint car driver Mike Kertscher, who will run 12 Badger midget races at Sun Prairie this season. A second car will be made available to Olson for some races.

Kertscher also plans to run Interstates Racing Association and selected World of Outlaw shows, and Olson will handle the Stealth chassis powered by Ron Hoettel-built Mopar motors on those dates. Kertscher was last season’s top rookie in the IRA sprint car series.
