Proceeds to be used for scholarship fund for homeless students in Rockford Public School District 205
Nicole Cabell, 2005 winner of the Opera Singer of the World Competition in Cardiff, Wales, and sought-after lyric soprano, will give a benefit concert Mothers Day, May 13, at 3 p.m., at Spring Creek United Church of Christ.
Proceeds from the concert will be used for a scholarship fund for homeless students in the Rockford Public School District 205. The artists have donated their performances. The event is sponsored and hosted by Spring Creek United Church of Christ.
Cabell will also perform this year at the London Covent Garden Opera House, the Metropolitan Opera of New York and the Santa Fe Opera. Her latest CD came out March 1 on Decca Records.
Joining Cabell will be Nicolai Janitzky, baritone, who is past winner of the George London Foundation Award, the Opera Index Award, and the Sullivan Foundation. He has recently appeared with the San Diego Opera, North Bay Opera, and he has also worked with the Washington National Opera, New York City Opera, San Francisco Opera and the Santa Fe Opera. He was a finalist in the Operalia (Placido Domingo) Vocal Competition.
Accompanying both singers will be Cynthia McGrath of Rockford.
Music will be a lighter spring fare that will be sure to please Mom on her special day.
