Local abortion provider, Dr. Dennis Christensen, was set to occupy new offices at 421 River Lane in Loves Park. But the sites former ownerOSF Healthcare Systemdiscovered who bought the building.
According to Christensens current landlord, Wayne Webster, OSF officials went to the doctors Wisconsin home and offered to buy back the building.
OSF Healthcare System sold the building to Gambino Realtors, Inc. in June, after relocating in March 2005.
After this closing date, OSF Healthcare System learned that the buyer was a physician from Madison, (Wisc.), who specializes in procedures contrary to the teachings of the Catholic Church. OSF Healthcare System was completely unaware of this situation prior to the close of the sale, an OSF Healthcare System statement read.
According to the statement, OSF Healthcare System governing board authorized repurchasing the property in order to prevent it from being used to facilitate abortions. The statement also stressed OSF Healthcare System was strengthening its policies and review processes to prevent similar situations from occurring again.
OSF spokesman Gerrie Gustafson confirmed the sale. Gustafson also confirmed that the building had been purchased for about $500,000 more than it had been sold. OSF Healthcare Systems is unsure what itll do next, she said. But Gustafson said the health care organization will, most likely, sell the building. She said OSF Healthcare System would be more cautious in future real estate dealings.
Gustafson also said the organization had no regrets about the current situation.
Were comfortable with how we handled it, she said.
