OSF Heritage Run scheduled April 28
Runners, walkers and families interested in fitness are invited to participate in the 18th Annual OSF Heritage Run to be held Sunday afternoon, April 28, in downtown Rockford. OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center and OSF Health Plans are major sponsors of the event.
The OSF Heritage Run includes a 10-kilometer (6.2 mile) race, a two-mile run, a two-mile family walk and a kids half-mile fun run. The 10k and two-mile races begin at 1 p.m. on Wyman, near the entrance to the Zeke Giorgi State of Illinois Building. Wheelchair racers are invited to participate in the two-mile race.
The Heritage Run is so named because it started as part of the celebration of Historic Preservation Week, and the race route travels through several of Rockfords historic neighborhoods. The OSF Heritage Run also celebrates the heritage of the Sisters who founded OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center in 1899. This year marks the 125th anniversary of the founding of The Sisters of the Third Order of St. Francis.
Registration fee for the 10k and two-mile races is $18 before April 25 and $25 the day of the race. A $5 entry fee is charged for youngsters participating in the kids run. All run and walk participants receive a specially-designed wind shirt as well as refreshments and awards. Participants in the kids fun run receive a short-sleeve T-shirt, finishers ribbon and gift. Door prizes also will be awarded. Registration and packet pick-up will be held from 10:30 a.m. until 12 noon at the MetroCentre.
Cash awards will be given to the top three overall male and female winners in the 10 kilometer race as well as the top female and male masters division (40 and over) 10k winners. Over $1,000 in prize money will be awarded. Awards will also be presented to the overall male and female winners in the two-mile and 10k races.
Fifteen age divisions are eligible for the races beginning with 6 to 11, 12 to 14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74 and 75 and over. Medals will be awarded to the top five finishers in each age division.
