OSF Saint Anthony offers free program for the ‘Working Woman’

Sponsored by OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center, the annual Women’s Health Program will begin at 5:30 p.m. with free health screenings and 6 p.m. breakout sessions Thursday, March 1, at Giovanni’s.

“Caretaking for the Working Women,” which is intended for women who work outside the home, volunteer in their community or care for their families, or all three, offers an opportunity to learn about important health topics and receive a free bone density screening.

In addition, a free women’s Heart Risk Assessment screen, which includes cholesterol levels, blood sugar, blood pressure, pulse and a comprehensive questionnaire, will be offered prior to the program.

Participants may select to attend three of the following “mini-sessions” beginning at 6 p.m.:

Dr. Jan Skowronski, cardiologist affiliated with Rockford Cardiology Associates and an independent physician practicing at OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center, will present “The Role of HRT (Hormone Replacement Therapy) in Heart Disease”;

Marilyn Gemme, director of oncology services at OSF Saint Anthony, will present “Breast Cancer Risk Assessment”;

Mary Beth Thomas, financial planner with RBC Dain Rauscher, will discuss “Financial Planning for Women”;

Gayle Kruse, OSF Saint Anthony geriatric clinical nurse specialist, will present “Aging Parents: When Roles Reverse.”

Julia Norem, assistant professor at the Saint Anthony College of Nursing, will present the keynote address, “Pulling It All Together: The Work/Life Balance,” at 7:30 p.m.

Light refreshments will be served. The program is free but reservations are required by calling 1-815-395-5493.
