OTW volunteers needed!

The On the Waterfront (OTW) Green Committee is still in search of dedicated volunteers to help with the planning and implementing of the festival’s recycling program. Volunteers are needed immediately to help plan the many Green Committee events, so don’t wait until August to volunteer!

To volunteer, or for information, call Karen King at 964-4388, e-mail her at 4fun@onthewaterfront.com, or contact the OTW corporate office, 308 W. State St., Suite 115, Rockford, IL 61101 (on the first floor inside the Stewart Square building).

Last year’s three-day OTW festival in downtown Rockford generated 52 tons of garbage. This year, the OTW Green Committee hopes to trim that total by 10 tons.

The Green Committee has organized a number of programs for this year’s festival, including public service announcements with Rockford Mayor Doug Scott; an appearance at the Fourth of July parade with Rocco, the program’s mascot; visits to local schools; and a six-story (fee-free for those with Waterfront passes) kids’ castle offering a rainforest full of educational activities.

OTW Green Committee meetings are at 5:30 p.m. on the first Monday of each month at the OTW corporate office.
