Park District offers recreation support grants

The Rockford Park District recognizes the abilities of community organizations to address the recreational needs of diverse populations on an ongoing basis, and provides Recreation Support grants to not-for-profit organizations to expand recreational opportunity for youth and teens of all abilities, adults with disabilities, and neighborhood special events.

The Park District values the contributions made by these organizations, and targets those who partner in helping the District further its goals toward serving its citizens and share the mission of helping people enjoy life. Guidelines for submitting 2004 funding applications are now available for Rockford Park District’s four recreation support programs:

• Hot Nights … Summer in the City – For youth ages 13-19

• Investment in Our Youth – Primarily for youth ages 5-12, but may include those up to age 19

• Rec Connection – For adults with disabilities, ages 18 and up

• Special Delivery – For neighborhood and family-oriented special events

Applicants must be: a not-for-profit organization with appropriate tax-exempt status; serve or represent residents of the Rockford Park District; and accept responsibility for at least 25 percent of the expenses for proposed program (cash or in-kind contribution).

Optional information sessions will be held Thursday, March 4, at 6 p.m. and Friday, March 5, at noon at the Park District Downtown Office, 401 S. Main St.
