Park District summer camps just around the corner

Registration is under way for Rockford Park District summer day and resident camps, offered June-August.

Children can enjoy activities with opportunities to form lasting friendships, and come away with memories that can last a lifetime at the Park District’s summer camps.

Nature Quest day camp for children ages 5-10 is based at Aldeen Park and provides a different theme and nature/environment-related activity each week, along with traditional camp activities such as arts and crafts, nature hikes, story-telling, games, puppetry and tie-dying.

Youth ages 9-14 will focus on recreation and exploration at Lone Oak resident camp, along the scenic Kishwaukee River corridor at Atwood Park. A different theme will be profiled each week, including activities such as geo-caching, archery, arts, river exploration, hiking and connecting with the Park’s rich history.

A new payment plan is offered this year, whereby installment payments can be set up for select all-day programs and camps.

Both Atwood camp programs qualify for Child Care Solutions, a state-funded financial assistance program for resident and non-resident families meeting certain income requirements.

The Rockford Park District also offers a Fun For All Kids fee assistance program for qualifying resident families.

Completed camp registration forms are accepted on a firs- come, first-served basis by mail, fax (credit card only), and in person at the Park District Customer Service Office downtown, 401 S. Main St., Rockford. Online registration is also available at

Registration brochures with camp descriptions and schedules will be available at Park District offices and facilities, online, or by calling Customer Service at 987-8800 (TTY, 963-DEAF). Fee assistance information and applications are also available from Customer Service.
