Patty Duke has beaten the odds by balancing her life with manic depression while being a wife, mother and managing a thriving acting career for 48 years.
Duke was the keynote speaker at Janet Wattles Centers annual dinner Sept. 19 at Giovannis.
Best known for her Oscar-winning portrayal of Helen Keller in The Miracle Worker, Duke starred as a teen-ager in her own television production, The Patty Duke Show, and went on to act in 72 television movies. Her talent and resilience have earned her an Oscar, two Golden Globes, three Emmy awards, six Emmy nominations and a Peoples Choice Award.
Duke discussed her life with, and recovery from, manic depression, as well as taking questions from the audience.
