Paul Harvey Oswald to perform, exhibit at Kortman

On Friday, July 13, multi-media artists Paul Harvey Oswald will present an art installation and performance at the Kortman Gallery. The opening reception for the exhibit entitled “Install Paul: Some Assembly Required” will be from 5:30 to 10 pm.

The PHO (Paul Harvey Oswald) gallery installation exhibit, which runs through August 15, is a venture into a new artistic realm for the group. “We are mostly performance artists,” says PHO’s Doug Connell, “but this will be our first time presenting our work as an exhibition in a gallery. It will be both visually exciting and challenging.”

PHO has performed at On The Waterfront, the Rockford Art Museum, and other creative venues throughout the city. The group presents the popular culture experience as seen and heard through the eyes of contemporary electronic media.

“We use everything from video monitors to computers to keyboards to ‘live’ cameras in our performances,” says PHO’s Kevin Cronin. “The electronic gear is our canvas on which we present a collage of audio and video sound bites creating a multi-media art experience.”

Members of PHO include Doug Connell, Kevin Cronin, Scott Snyder, Sue Stephens, Matt Conroy, Amy Szczepaniak, Susan Hurley, Jenni Taggart, Mike McGary, Amy Towne and Craig Beiersdorff.

The “Install Paul” exhibition is free and open to the public. The Kortman Gallery is located upstairs at 107 North Main St. in downtown Rockford. For more information, call 968-0123.
