Pec Playhouse announces auditions for Guys and Dolls

Pec Playhouse Theatre announces open auditions for Guys and Dolls. This fun, lively, oddball romantic comedy soars with the spirit of Broadway as it introduces you to a cast of vivid characters who have become legends in the genre. Performances are scheduled for July 11 through 27 at Pec Playhouse Theatre, now in its 12th season.

The play is under the direction of the husband and wife team of Todd and Michele Bonzi of Rockford. Prior to their appearance in Oliver! last summer for Pec Playhouse Theatre, Todd & Michele had completed several years of work both on- and off-stage at Rock Valley College Starlight Theatre.

The story: Desperate to find money to pay for his floating crap game, Nathan Detroit makes a bet with Sky Masterson, the slick high-rolling gambler, that Sky will not be able to woo the upright-but-uptight Salvation Army “mission doll,” Sarah Brown, to Cuba. While Sky eventually is able to convince Sarah to join him, Nathan battles with Adelaide, his fianceé of 14 years. Sky is shocked to discover he has fallen in love with Sarah, and when he returns to New York, he bets all the members of the floating crap game that if he wins his roll of the dice, they will all have to go to the mission. If he loses, he will give them each $1,000!

Featuring well-known Broadway classic songs like “I’ve Never Been in Love Before,” “Luck Be a Lady” and “Sit Down, You’re Rockin’ the Boat,” Guys and Dolls is sure to thrill and entertain audiences of any age. There are also opportunities for technical positions covering all aspects of the production.

Auditions will be at 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 3, and from 7 to 9 p.m. on Sunday and Monday, May 4 and 5. Auditioners should be prepared to sing a song from the show, and read from scripts provided. Appointments are not required. Auditions are held at Pec Playhouse Theatre, 314 Main St., Pecatonica. Information: (815) 239-1210 (1-877-PEC-PLAY).
