People Like Us—women’s support group meets

People Like Us (PLU) is a fellowship of lesbian women who offer a safe, understanding and supportive environment that promotes healthy lifestyles, recovery and empowerment. This group addresses dysfunctional relationships, alcohol and substance abuse, eating disorders, mental illness, abusive relationships, and many other concerns.

Meetings are strictly confidential and utilize many resources, including 12-step principles. The group has been active for more than 10 years and just recently moved to Diversity of Rockford on the near east side. The group looks forward to supporting Diversity in their mission to educate the community on HIV-AIDS and their vision to eliminate this devastating disease.

Lesbian women of all faiths, ethnicity, racial or socio-economic background are welcome. Sometimes the meeting is casual, other times structured. Meetings are held every Monday at 6 p.m. in a private, warm and comfortable, upstairs room. Information: Diversity of Rockford, 117 S. 3rd St., Rockford, IL 61104, or call 964-2639 and leave a message. Diversity of Rockford Resource Center hours are Monday-Friday from 6 to 8 p.m.
