PETAs new Sexy Soy Milkmaid cards are about to make a splash in Americas Dairyland. PETA will distribute the cards throughout the state of Wisconsin, figuring that when people get a load of the two milk-dumping, soy milk-sipping beauties on the cards and check out the MilkSucks.com Web site, theyll want to start stocking their fridges with delicious, cruelty-free soy milk.
Why do PETA and the Milkmaids think milk is past its sell by date? Dairy cows, fed a steady diet of hormones and antibiotics, become worn out after just a few imposed pregnancies and are shipped off and slaughtered for fast-food burgers. Male newborn calves are torn from their mothers within hours of birthcausing acute distress to bothand shoved into filthy, tiny veal crates, where they remain, unable even to turn around, for 14 to 17 weeks until they are killed. Females either replace their mothers as milk machines or are killed for the rennet in their stomachs, an ingredient in most commercial cheeses.
In addition to contributing to such inconveniences as constipation, phlegm and the consequences of lactose intolerance, dairy products are linked to allergies, obesity, heart disease, cancer and even osteoporosisthe very condition the dairy industry likes to claim that its products prevent.
