Phidian Art Club welcomes Forte Fingers Nov. 5

DIXON—The 2006 Phidian Art Club Musicale is set for 2 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 5, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 421 S. Peoria Ave., Dixon. The performance is open to the public.

This year, the group “Forte Fingers” (a.k.a. Forty Fingers) will perform. The group was organized one year ago by Nel Allison of Polo.

While all have performed individually, members of the group had so much fun playing together, they decided to perform in unison. They try to select music that is fun both for themselves and their audience. They perform on two Clavinovas so they will have two equal, in-tune instruments.

Forte Fingers

Members of Forte Fingers are Nel Allison, Carol Brown, Jean Frey and Diane Dietmeier.

Allison teaches piano at Immanuel Lutheran School in Freeport, as well as in her studio at home. She estimates she has taught more than 60,000 private piano lessons. While living in Mt. Morris, Allison was the accompanist for a couple of Blackhawk Players’ musicals and the accompanist for what would become the Mt. Morris Performing Arts Guild. She also accompanies the Highland Children’s Choir in Freeport. She is a member of the Phidian Art Club, the Dixon Music Club, and a former member of the Greater Rockford Music Teachers’ Association.

Brown, of Dixon, has played the piano by ear since the age of 4, when her parents discovered she was playing the songs she heard on the radio. She took lessons for 14 years while growing up. Besides numerous church activities, she belongs to the Dixon Music Club, Phidian Art Club, and volunteers at the Nachusa Grasslands. Brown said, “God has put music in my bones.”

Frey is from Polo and has accompanied soloists for IMEA contests, PCHS choruses, school musicals and Sunday school performances. She plays Clavinova and piano at Polo First United Methodist Church (with Brown on organ).

Dietmeier has taught general music in Dixon schools, vocal music at Forreston High School, general music in the Forrestville Valley District, and continues to teach at Immanuel Lutheran School in Freeport. She also directs the choir and musicians at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Freeport.

The public is invited to attend the free Musicale. Forte Fingers will perform a Cole Porter Medley, “Battle Hymn of the Republic,” “Tournament Gallop” and Mozart’s “Don Juan Overture,” among other selections.
