Phil Mickelson claims second green jacket

Phil Mickelson finished two strokes ahead of Tim Clark to win his second green jacket April 9 in the 70th annual Masters Tournament at Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Ga.

Golf’s most famous lefty finished Sunday’s round with a three-under-par 69. The victory was his second at Augusta in the last three years.

Along with another green jacket to hang in his closet, Mickelson pocketed $1.26 million.

The rain-shortened third round had to be completed Sunday morning. Mickelson had the lead with another 18 holes to be played in the afternoon.

Some of golf’s greatest, including defending champion Tiger Woods, and former green jacket winners Vijay Singh and Fred Couples, were within three strokes of the leader going into the final action. Steady play by Mickelson, and shaky putting by the others, sealed his victory.

Rockford Pro-Am regular Billy Mayfair finished tied for 14th. His four-round total was 288.
