During the month of April, Lowes is partnering with the American Red Cross to launch a public relations and fund-raising campaign calling on Americans to Pledge to Prepare. The innovative effort will combine the expertise of the Red Cross Home Safety Council with the marketing resources of Lowes and Kidde to prepare for disasters. This in-store and online promotion is a call to action for consumers to take the pledge and prepare for emergencies now. The basic elements of the Pledge to Prepare are as follows:
1. Develop a fire safety escape plan;
2. Test smoke alarms monthly;
3. Build a disaster supplies kit;
4. Attend a safety class;
5. Share my safety knowledge.
There will be an adult and child version of the pledge. A prime component of the campaign will be the new Web site, pledgetoprepare.com. In addition, during the month of April, all Lowes stores will collect customer donations to benefit the Red Cross chapter in their community.
Counter stickers at each register will feature donation bar codes for customers to make a gift to their local Red Cross chapter. Lowes and Kidde will also match customer donations up to $100,000 for the American Red Cross.
All donations will benefit American Red Cross, Rock River Chapter single and multi-family fires and disaster services.
