Points West: Quilt Guild celebrates 10 years with fall show

ELIZABETH, Ill.—The Friendship Quilt Guild’s 2006 show, “Decades of Friendship,” will celebrate the Guild’s 10th anniversary in the Highland Community College West building in Elizabeth, Saturday, Sept. 9, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, Sept. 10, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The event will feature exhibits of member-made quilts, antique quilts, a bed turning, a silent auction of member-made items, vendors, a “Second Time Around” boutique, a hook rug demonstration and a display of miniature quilts. Food service will be available, and the building is handicapped accessible. Quilt author Jennifer Chiaverini will make a special Saturday afternoon appearance, which will include a display of her quilts and a book signing.

Show attendees will have a chance to enter a drawing for a raffle quilt made by Guild members that features the Friendship Star block. Tickets are $1 each or six for $5. The show’s entrance fee is $3 at the door.

The Friendship Quilters’ mission is to contribute to the growth and knowledge of quilting techniques, patterns and history; to provide educational meetings, fun and friendship; to sponsor and support quilting activities; to encourage quilt making and collecting; to promote the appreciation of fine quilts; to perform community service by participating in quilt-related projects; and to provide assistance to charities of their choice. This is the second show for this small Guild. The show proceeds allow the guild to bring speakers to monthly Guild meetings and to help them with their community projects.

Membership is open to anyone 18 or older. Meetings are at 7 p.m. the first Monday of each month at the Catholic Church of St. Mary, 112 E. Washington St., Elizabeth. Dues are $15 per year.
