Police open workstation at Colonial Village Mall

Mark Bankord, directional leader of Heartland Community Church, and Rockford Police Chief Chet Epperson announced June 9 the opening of a new 24-hour Rockford Police workstation in the Colonial Village Mall.

“Heartland is making the space available in the mall, free of charge, to the Rockford Police Department as a place where they can take a break and file reports without having to go all the way to the downtown police station,” said Bankord. “The area is private, air conditioned with restroom facilities and WIFI Internet connection.”

The nearly 1,000-square-foot workstation features entrances from both the exterior and interior of the mall. It is next to the former Bergner’s location. Detainees will not be housed or brought to the facility.

According to Bankord, “Colonial Village Mall is an excellent location for the workstation, allowing Rockford’s finest to remain close to their assignments, saving them time and contributing to their efficiency.”

Mayor Larry Morrissey (I), Epperson, Bankord and aldermen from the wards served by the new workstation were present at the official opening.
