Pranayama Yoga Studio will host an Edge of Waterfront open house from 1 to 4 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 4 during the On the Waterfront festival. Talk with studio teachers and students, and register for door prizes. A free yoga class will be given from 2 to 3 p.m. The studio, upstairs from Bacchus Wine Bar at 517 E. State St., is just outside the OTW barricades. Those who are already downtown for the festival are invited to stop in, as are non-festival-goers. New class offerings will be showcased; yoga media display and fall class schedules will be available.
New this fall is a prenatal class designed to support pregnant women both physiologically and emotionally. It includes yoga, breath work, vocal toning, relaxation techniques, and meditation. The 90-minute class is scheduled in four-week, ongoing sessions and is appropriate for expectant mothers at any stage of pregnancy. Classes may be continued from session to session, or taken intermittently to match individual situations. Jean Skeels, a Kripalu yoga instructor with additional prenatal certification, teaches the class.
Daniel McGuire joins the studio this fall to teach both instructor-led and Mysore-style Ashtanga yoga classes. McGuire has studied with senior Ashtanga teachers in America and Europe and with Sri K Pattahbhi Jois in Mysore, India. He has practiced yoga for nearly 15 years, and taught for six years in Bali and on Marthas Vineyard.
Pranayama Yoga Studio offers weekly classes, private instruction, and special workshops. A punch card payment approach provides flexible class attendance options. Call 968-YOGA (9642) for information.
