Pride will bloom in Rockton on Community Clean-up Day

The Village of Rockton will come together for a final Community Clean-up Day Saturday, June 23, in preparation for its America in Bloom evaluation July 6-7. Numerous Rockton in Bloom committee members and volunteers will be on hand to clean up targeted areas of Rockton and finalize beautification efforts for the America in Bloom campaign and contest.

Volunteers are needed and can check in and pick up supplies at Rockton Village Hall, 110 E. Main St., from 8-9 a.m., Saturday. Gloves, litter tongs and trash bags will be provided. Groups may select their own locations or help at one of various targeted clean-up sites from 9 a.m.-noon. Rockton in Bloom is also seeking donations of snacks and beverages for volunteers; e-mail or leave a message at (815) 624-0934 if you would like to make a donation. A thank-you celebration will be held in Settler’s Park from noon to 2 p.m.

America in Bloom is a national campaign and contest that fosters community involvement and civic pride. Communities compete in population groups and are evaluated by professionally-trained judges in the following categories: tidiness, urban forestry, floral displays, community involvement, turf and groundcover, landscaping, environment and heritage. Judges will evaluate Rockton July 6-7, and the winner will be announced at the America in Bloom Annual Awards Ceremony in Rockford Sept. 27-29. For more information about America in Bloom, visit
