Pro-Am’s Judy Sheley, Bob Reitsch Sr. deserve Hall of Fame nod

Between now and June 29, the Rockford Park District is accepting nominations for the 2007 class for the Rockford Area Golf Hall of Fame. Nominations are accepted in five categories: player, organization, volunteer, instructor/coach or contributor.

The Rockford Area Golf Hall of Fame was created in 2005 with an inaugural class of 13 inductees. The Park District added four more individuals, a family and an association in 2006.

Some of the current members of the hall include Norris and Margaret Aldeen, Steve Hare, Nancy Kauzlarich, Lloyd McWilliams, Salley Wessels and Alex Welsh.

The Rockford Area Golf Hall of Fame is inside the clubhouse at Elliot Golf Course, 888 S. Lyford Rd.

I’d like to suggest the selection committee consider two long-time contributors to the local golfing scene. In my opinion, Judy Sheley and Bob Reitsch Sr. both deserve to be nominated and included in this year’s class. They have been an integral part of the continued success of the longest-running, free-standing Pro-Am tournament in the country, the Rockford Pro-Am. Hopefully, someone will take the time to submit an application for them.

Anyone wishing to nominate Bob and Judy, or any other individual or organization, applications may be submitted to Rockford Park District Golf Services at 401 S. Main St., Suite 113, Rockford, IL 61101.

More information about the nomination process or the Rockford Golf Hall of Fame is available from the Rockford Park District Golf Services at (815) 987-1602.
