Project Welcome Home needs furniture for Hurricane Katrina victims

Project Welcome Home, the Rockford-area furniture bank, is in great need of furniture immediately for the Hurricane Katrina victims arriving in Rockford. The furniture bank will provide the Winnebago County Housing Authority and other agencies with furniture for people they will be housing in the Rockford area. The bank is in need of the following gently used furniture items: sofas, upholstered chairs, coffee and end tables, kitchen tables and chairs, dressers, beds, dishes, silverware and linens.

If you have donations, call Project Welcome Home at 963-6236, ext. 232, and they will set up a time to pick up your furniture as soon as possible. You may also bring your furniture to the office at 917 S. Main St. A donation acknowledgement form will be sent to you, which may be used for a tax write-off.

If you are unable to donate furniture at the present time, but think you may have some in the future, please note that Project Welcome Home and Love, Inc. are collaborating to hold a major furniture drive Saturday, Oct. 8, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. A portion of this furniture will be sent to homes of Hurricane Katrina victims.

Although we are miles from the disaster, this is Rockford’s opportunity to show its support and help its fellow Americans. Help Rockford show its guests the hospitality that they so very much need.
