Promised Land changes name, expands focus

With the start of 2007, the former Promised Land Employment Services has changed its name to Careers Etc. The name change for Careers Etc. is part of this organization’s expanded effort to assist in confronting and overcoming issues when seeking employment. In addition to the name change and broadened focus, Careers Etc. has also moved to a brand-new location.

Careers Etc. is a local employment training organization that empowers people to work by providing them with the skills necessary to get and keep a job. Previously on Seventh Street, Careers Etc. recently moved to 5301 E. State St., Suite 207, where their offices have expanded to take on and better manage the increased need for employment seeking training in the greater Rockford area. The name from Promised Land to Careers Etc. was done to more closely identify the services offered with the company’s mission and focus.

“The mission of our organization has always been and will always continue to be providing employment seeking training to those who have had difficulty in the past, for many reasons, in finding and/or keeping a job,” said Careers Etc. President and CEO Stephen Haight. “Our services range from interview training to résumé development and basic computer training. Our new location will enable us to enhance all of our service offerings and provide more one-to-one mentoring for our clients.”

Careers Etc. has a proven track record for success as evidenced by a 79 percent rate of clients who have secured employment over the last year. To strengthen this effort, Careers Etc. recently received a grant from the Community Foundation of Northern Illinois and will work in collaboration with Family Counseling Services of Northern Illinois to form a lasting support network for those who have difficulty maintaining a job. Careers Etc. is the first workforce development organization in the northern Illinois area to form such a relationship.
