Puppy thieves caught on tape—your help needed

Thursday evening, April 19, a 2-month-old male Malti-Poo puppy was stolen from the Petland store in Rockford. A young couple was caught on the store’s surveillance footage that was turned over to the police.

A young Caucasian woman asked to see the small white Maltese-poodle mixed puppy, which a pet counselor handed to her.

After playing with the puppy for a few minutes, the woman wandered through the aisles of the store with the puppy, then put the puppy in her purse and left the store.

When the pet counselor returned to check on the puppy, she found the couple and the puppy were gone. The theft was caught on camera, to which the store sprung to action.

Petland Rockford has all their puppies microchipped and protected with HelpmefindMYPET.com, an “Amber Alert” service for pets, and an alert was sent out to all of the pet community within a 50-mile radius of the Petland store. The alert that was sent out to the community includes a photo of the puppy, physical description and the microchip information. If anyone has any information about the location of this stolen puppy, they should contact HelpmefindMYPET.com immediately.

Video footage and photos are available upon request. The puppy’s safety is the store’s primary concern. Small breed dogs require special care at this young age. If the puppy is not taken care of properly, this puppy could die.
