Rajun Cajun Fest to raise funds for Harlem arts

The Harlem School District is raising money for the Harlem Arts Foundation with a Mardi Gras Rajun Cajun Fest Sunday, Feb. 26. This event will help support the Harlem Arts Foundation by providing materials and education for students kindergarten through 12th grade.

The Harlem School District serves about 7,750 children a year, and recognizes the benefits of music and art education in a student’s curriculum.

To make this year’s event successful, the Harlem Arts Foundation is looking for local chefs to join in this fund-raiser. All chefs will be asked to create a sample portion of cajun-style appetizers, entrées and/or desserts. They will also be competing in a People’s Choice Award, which will be voted on by those in attendance. All proceeds from this event go directly to the Harlem School District Arts Foundation.

Those interested in participating should contact Cathy Martin at the Harlem School District at 815-654-4503.

The event is open to the public, and will be from 4 to 7 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 26 at Thunder Bay Grille, Rockford. Tickets are $10 per person, and are available for purchase at any Harlem school or the school board office.
