The Rockford Area Music Industry (RAMI) Awards Committee is offering any youth interested an opportunity to win a free S101 Standard Sharp Electric Guitar.
Tom OConnell won the guitar at the Seventh Annual RAMI fund-raiser March 5. OConnell is not a guitar player, so he suggested the RAMI Committee host a contest to award the guitar to a young musician, 18 years of age or younger. Those interested in entering the contest for the guitar should do the following:
Write an essay of about 100 words as to why the guitar is important to them (mail the essay to RAMI Guitar Contest, c/o The Rock River Times, 128 N. Church St., Rockford, IL 61101);
Donate at least a half day to the RAMI banquet or another charitable function; and
Depending on interest, two to four finalists will cut cards to determine the winner.
OConnell said the winner would be requested to pledge to offer a free performance to a RAMI fund-raiser (with or without a band) sometime in the next 15 years.
The winner of the contest will be awarded the guitar at the RAMI Awards Banquet April 21 at Tebala Shrine Temple. Deadline for essay submission is April 8.
