RAMI winner Curt Johnsen releases DVD Ambiessence

DVD is ‘moving art for wall displays’

Visual/audio composition intended for installation in the home or business

Nine-time RAMI Award-winning pianist, composer and videographer Curt Johnsen has released his latest DVD, Ambiessence. The visual/audio composition is intended for installation in the home or business.

The goal of the project was to create an ambient experience for visual audio graphics that responds to original musical composition.

“You can play it on a flat-panel TV mounted to a wall, and it becomes moving art for wall displays,” said Johnsen. “The concept is about listening to a painting.”

The DVD Ambiessence is about 45 minutes divided into three sections with varying themes. The visual part of the work includes images from Anderson Japanese Gardens, as photographed by David Anderson. These photos are embellished with graphic design images that bring the beautiful still photos to life. And original computer graphic designs are used, as well as photos taken by Johnsen of everything from Nassau, Bahamas, to Rockford-area people and events.

Johnsen intertwines them all with color, movement, and original musical composition.

The DVD will be on sale at J.R. Kortman Center for Design, 109 N. Main St., Rockford, from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 21. Johnsen will be on hand to sign the DVD. The DVD signing event is part of the “Five Nights of Christmas: Shopping for the Arts promotion” (5-10 p.m., Dec. 18-22) at Kortman and several other downtown River District locations.

Ambiessence is produced by Astral Hotel, Inc., Johnsen’s music and video/DVD production company. Visit www.Astralhotel.com to hear samples from Ambiessence. For more information and to purchase the DVD ($22.50, plus tax), contact Johnsen by calling 963-8631 or by e-mail to cjohnsen@ameritech.net.
