Last year, Rockford professional soccer fans had the Thunder to root for. They played at the Indoor Sports Center on Riverside Boulevard. This year, there will be no Thunder and no more professional soccer games at the ISC. Soccer fans, cheer up, its not as bad as that may have sounded.
The good news is the team has changed its name to the Rockford Rampage, and they will be playing their 2007 season games at the Victory Indoor Sport Center at 7003 N. Alpine Road. They are in preparation for the upcoming 2007 season. The team will once again be members of the American Indoor Soccer League, and play a 14-game (seven home and seven away) schedule.
Their first game is Nov. 3, when they travel to Cincinnati to take on the Excite. The following week (Nov. 10), they are on the road once again. This time, though, it is much closer to home. They will meet one of the new expansion teams in the AISL, the Northern Illinois Rebels. The Rebels play their home games at the Lake County Sports Center in Waukegan. The Rampage will play their first game at home Nov. 17. Kickoff time for all three of those games is 7:30 p.m.
As of press time, the Rampage Web site was still under construction and unavailable. More information can be obtained by logging on to the AISL Web site at www.aisl.org.
