Randy Sabien & Brian Torff Quartet come to the Web
Critically acclaimed jazz violinist Randy Sabien joins bass virtuoso Brian Q. Torff in a stunning tribute to jazz great Stephane Grappelli this weekend. At 8 p.m., Saturday, April 5, Charlottes Web hosts this popular duo at the Burpee Museum of Natural History Auditorium, 737 N. Main St., Rockford.
Sold-out audiences across the country have been captivated by these glowing renditions of Grappelli standards, including many from the Hot Club era, as well as exuberant original material, all performed with creativity, virtuosity and improvisation.
Bassist Torff, who performed with Grappelli throughout the 70s and 80s, brings a tremendous history to the project, and both he and Randy Sabien lead educational workshops along with a concert engagement. The simple format of two guitars, violin and bass are fully realized in this two-hour program of acoustic jazzhot club style!
Debuting in 2002-03, the group is available to festival, concert hall and performing arts presenters exclusively from SRO Artists. If Grappelli were here, these guys would receive a standing ovation from him.
Tickets are $12 in advance, $15 at the door. Tickets are available at Rockford Area Arts Council, 713 E. State St., 963-6765; The Postal Shoppe, Edgebrook Center, 397-7301; and Tin Whistle, N.
